Practice Comment

‘Our mission is expanding. As an awardee of the Rethink Ireland Entrepreneurship Impact Fund, launching this report at an event celebrating social enterprise impact is a significant milestone for us. By operating as a social enterprise, we ensure our work is defined by long-term ecological and societal impact rather than short-term profit, allowing us to deliver regenerative solutions at scale” James McConville, Director, ACT

Report Highlights: A Record Year of Impact

The 2025 report showcases how ACT’s research-led architecture practice is bridging the gap between national policy and local action:

  • Community Wealth Building: Directly engaged 1,208 people through co-design workshops to ensure local voices lead the design process.
  • National Influence: Co-facilitated 12 national events for Ireland’s Nature Restoration Plan, hearing from over 530 citizens.
  • Technical Rigour: Mapped 11,663 m² of land and buildings, including the landmark Newtownmountkennedy Town Centre First Plan.
  • Circular Economy: Addressing the fact that construction generates 48% of Ireland’s waste, the report details ACT’s commitment to Design for Disassembly (DfD) and bio-material construction.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As ACT approaches its 5-year anniversary, the 2026 roadmap includes leading the Balla Blueprint (a €5 million EU Horizon-funded project) and launching the national rollout of Dune Action for coastal resilience. To meet this rising demand, ACT continues to invest in its core team, focusing on the professional development of its architects and designers.
